July 1, 2022

The seventeenth annual David C. Driskell Prize Dinner took place at the Museum on April 29. This year’s winner, Dr. Adrienne L. Childs, received a $50,000 check during the event. Throughout her career, Childs has focused her research and curatorial work on the relationship between race and representation in European and American fine and decorative arts as well as the influence and achievements of African American artists in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Driskell Prize, named for the renowned African American artist and scholar, is the first national award to celebrate an early or midcareer artist or scholar whose work makes an original or important contribution to the field of African American art or art history.
